The Drawing Die Microscope serves for the measurement of the inside bore diameter of drawing dies for wire production.

The image processiong system with special algorithms for this application performs the measurement of:

- diameter
- ovality / roundness
- area
 

The system is equipped with 2 special measuring microscopes to cover a measuring range from 0,1mm up to 10mm bore diameter.

The optics is mounted on a motorized z-stage for autofocusing onto the optimum image plane. Using this function, the gauge provides extremely high measuring accuracy and reproducibility.

The specimen holder is specialized to the different die types and allows fast and easy positioning of the die.

A fine positioning is possible using the x/y table with micrometer screws.

Setup and function

 

The measurement is performed optically with image processing. The image of the measuring optics is transferred by a USB camera to the PC. The live image of the camera is shown onto the PC monitor and evaluated by highly accurate image processing algorithms. The ZM 1 is equipped with 2 measuring optics, which are mounted together on the motorized focusing stage. At all measurements a freely selectable z-range is automatically scanned to search for the sharpest and smallest image of the drawing die cylinder. The step width between 2 image evaluations is also freely selectable. This auto focusing process is controlled by the measuring software and finds the smallest opening of the cylinder with submicron accuracy.
